Things slow down…

Here’s a picture from the red carpet! Left to right is: Lauren (Chris’s wife), Chris, Me and my brother, Tim.

It was a crazy month between the Oscars, the Annies and the new baby girl – and now things are getting a little quieter around here. The Academy Awards were an amazing experience; I got to meet Steven Speilberg, John Lassetter, George Miller, Andrew Stanton among others. Although we didn’t win, Chris and I both really liked the film that did, so the sting wasn’t so bad. I have to say, after doing the whole Oscar thing once – I’d really like to do it again! Hopefully I’ll get the chance, but I’m not holding my breath.

But for now it’s back to Horton Hears a Who. I’m the Senior Supervising Animator, so I’ve got a lot on my plate, but I’m *really* hoping to do some actual animation on this film. It’s a great project with some amazing characters; an animators dream project, I think.

Well, after a crazy week of going from the Annie Awards (where we won Best Animated Short!), to San Francisco for the AWN Oscar Showcase tour, and back to NY on the friday night red-eye into JFK, Heather gave birth sunday afternoon to our new baby girl! Katie was 8lbs 10oz’s and very healthy. The family is relaxing at home this week, until I fly out to LA for the Academy Awards. I wish Heather could come with me, but five days after giving birth just isn’t enough recovery time!

Nominee’s Class of 2007 Photo!

This past monday was the Oscar Nominee’s Luncheon at the Beverly Hilton in LA, and Chris and I attended! It was amazing – Leonardo Dicaprio and Mark Wahlberg were at my table. My guest, Lori Forte, was practically drooling. They were pretty cool. Check out the photo here.

Chris and I are the two guys on the far left side in the first row standing behind the people seated. I’m right next to Randy Newman. Awesome.

Demo Reels (updated)

So it turns out there was some funkiness with getting the links to my demo reels working – I definitely don’t have the time to figure out how to do all this web stuff. So instead I’m going the cheesey way out and embedding the videos using PhotoBucket. The quality isn’t the best, but you get the idea. I’m still aiming to get a better ‘cut’ which will include the scant few Ice Age 2 shots I managed to squeak in whilst supervising.
Between Horton, the Oscars and a VERY pregnant wife I’m a little busy.

"No Time for Nuts" on AWN

There’s a link from the Blue Sky page, but I thought I’d post it anyway; an Oscar shorts showcase over at AWN, with some cool stills from the short and a brief synopsis.

Nominated!

Wow – what a crazy day this has been! My short film “No Time for Nuts” was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Animated Short film category! It’s been non-stop emails and phone calls all day, and the support has been overwhelming.

Chris Renaud and I were all smiles today, and there were plenty of pats on the back, hugs and hand shakes from our co-workers at Blue Sky, most of whom poured a lot of blood, sweat and tears into making the film with us. It’s nice to see their hard work gets such great recognition and positive feedback!

Of the other candidates, my favorite film is “The Danish Poet”; it’s such a great story with simple, sweet animation. If we don’t win, I’m really hoping that film takes it!

I did a quick interview today for my hometown newspaper, and the reporter had obviously been to my website, which was horribly out of date (he read on my site that I was going to be a dad – “actually, that was almost two years ago, we’re expecting our second kid about 3 days before the Oscars!”), so I felt like I should put some more recent info up on the site, hence this new Blogger page. I’ll get my demo reels and stuff up soon, along with whatever else I can dig up, scan or find that might be of interest to people!
